Enjoying the modern department store 11/08/2010

I need a workshirt for my partner, he needs his shirts to have two inches longer on the arms- where do I go....a department store. Speeding past John Lewis Oxford Street I thought I'd dash in on the off chance. I ask a very smart shop assistant where the extra long sleeved shirts are and I'm there in seconds, brilliant. Hang on not so brilliant, exactly want I want but the right size is not on the shelf. I shuffle off moodily to attract the attention of an assistant to ask the tiresome question of whether they have any in the stock room- bore!
Immediately two male assistants jump to help- within seconds I have one on his computer checking where he can find stock and the other has fled behind the scenes to check back of house. Two minutes later I'm holding one correct sized shirt and the other will be delivered to my door in two days from their Liverpool Store- at no cost to me.

You see, I may have had to wait two days for the second shirt but as the well known cheeky advert taking a pop at JLP promised; 'an awfully well brought up young man' did in fact 'bend over backwards' to help me.

I've been buying so much online that I'd forgotten how good the personal touch is (supported by multichannel availability, of course!). EG
